ABSTRACT

After the Second World War, camping and camping sites in forests have developed and increased significantly from the 1980 s to 1990 s in Japan, relying on the laws and institutions established from the 1950 s to 1970 s across multiple administrative sectors, obtaining social approval as a legitimatized outdoor activity and forest use. Since the 2000s, the management of these camping sites has deteriorated mainly owing to economic recession, which caused the movement of camping site renewal by the private sector. This movement directed the diversification of forest use by camping sites in recent years. Camping facilities have been developed in many ways to meet the needs of campers, including organized group camps that promote education and experience in forests, solo camps, glamping, and workcations under the spread of the COVID-19 that demand relaxing or productive environment, and leisure camps that require enrichment of outdoor activities. As a result of this diversification, possibilities for effective utilization of forests and regional revitalization through the management of camping sites have been observed. Many camping sites have utilized forest lands, standing trees, and forest spaces to develop facilities and services, and there are cases where firewood production for campers has promoted the reorganization and development of local forestry and securing of personnel for forest management. In addition to securing local employment brought by reorganization, local revitalization in rural and mountainous areas has been promoted through the linkage of the needs of campers to positive economic effects, increase of the visitors who deeply connected to local people, and comprehensive and sustainable use of resources in local societies. © 2023 Nihon Ringakkai. ABSTRACT

Rural tourism is a vigorous drive force to the development of rural economy, and an important power to lead the rural revitalization strategy in China as well. After the Pandemic of COVID-19, the demand for rural tourism products and quality continues to expand. However, during the rapid development, rural tourism showed mismatch between supply and demand. This paper took the case of Kunshan City in Jiangsu Province, based on the data of tourist market investment, using the IPA analytical method and the gap model of service quality, tried to find out the problems and countermeasures in re-matching of supply and demand in Kunshan's rural tourism industry, especially from the supply-side. This paper constructed the logical frame‐ work of supply-demand matching governance policy of rural tourism based on China's Rural Re‐ vitalization strategy. The research result can provide reference to the promotion of the quality for China's rural tourism development. ABSTRACT

The Tunpu village in Anshun city Guizhou province has unique cultural assets, particularly in the village's spatial layout, its traditional building, and the spectacular Dixi opera. In the context of the Chinese Rural Revitalization Strategy, a suitable combination of Cultural Heritage (CH) and the tourism industry to promote the rural revitalization of Tunpu Village is of practical significance. However, the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has had a severe impact on the rural revival of Tunpu Village. This article analyzes the current situation of rural revitalization in Tunpu villages from the perspectives of CH and the tourism industry through fieldwork of three Tunpu villages that have already developed tourism up to certain stages. We observed that the participation rate of villagers is not high;the villagers' income through village tourism projects is generally low. While tourist attractions mainly consist of traditional architectural landscapes, buildings management and protection were an issue. CH plays an active role in the tourism industry, but the support provided to tourist facilities and entertainment projects could be further improved. The article concludes that the collaboration of the village government, villagers, and tourism company plays an essential role in integrating the tourism industry and CH. The right strategy is the guide, and the cooperation of the participants is the guarantee. © 2022, ASERS Publishing House. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

The structural defining elements of the socio-economic model for the sustainability of rural development are closely related to the revitalization of the activities, processes and results of the functioning of economic units/actors in rural areas. We have used a double matrix socio-economic model that has the aim to determine what role do the micro and small farms have in socio-economic environment in Bulgaria, as well as how implementation of EU politics and national legislation affect them. Bulgarian agriculture has experienced major structural changes as a result of the restoration of ownership of agricultural land and in recent years, CAP policy the green deal, combined with COVID19 and the war in Ukraine has influenced heavily the processes happening to small and micro farms in Bulgaria and their role/place in agriculture. © 2022, Agricultural Academy, Bulgaria. ABSTRACT

Rural resilience is not only a comprehensive reflection of "thriving businesses, pleasant living environments, social etiquette and civility, effective governance, and prosperity". It is also the unity of resilience in industry, ecology, culture, organization and livelihood. This paper uses the entropy weight-TOPSIS method to measure the rural resilience level in 31 regions in China and analyzes the configuration of influencing factors with the Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). The results of the study are as follows: (1) The level of rural resilience in China showed a stable increase from 2010 to 2019, but the overall level was low, with large regional disparities, showing a significant positive spatial correlation. (2) In the high-level rural resilience explanatory path, labor-driven, cultural-driven and market-labor-technology linkage-driven play a core role, while administrative force is not playing a significant role. In the explanation path of non-high level rural resilience, the market-labor absent, administrative-market absent and cultural absent hinder the improvement of rural resilience. In summary, we put forward the following suggestions. Policy renovation and support should be strengthened. Adaption to local conditions should be considered in order to achieve sustainable and differentiated development. Development should be coordinated and balanced in different regions so as to achieve an overall resilience level in rural areas.

ABSTRACT

This paper presents an empirical analysis of the relationship between human capital and rural laborers' willingness to return to their hometowns based on the moderating effect of identity in China. The results show that the level of human capital significantly affects the willingness of the mobile population to return to their hometowns, but this effect is reversed, i.e., the increase in the level of human capital reduces the willingness of rural laborers to return to their hometowns. The urban identity of rural laborers after flowing into cities has a significant positive moderating effect on their willingness to return to their hometowns. Improving the carrying capacity of economic development in rural areas, further strengthening infrastructure construction in rural areas to provide the material basis for rural revitalization and labor force return, and at the same time strengthening the education and training of farmers to enhance their main status is recommended.

ABSTRACT

Rural tourism development has been an essential driving force behind China’s promotion of integrated urban–rural development, sustainable rural development and rural revitalization in the new era. This study included 1470 villages on the national list of beautiful leisure villages in China (BLVCs) from 2010 to 2021. We explored the distribution characteristics and influencing factors based on mathematical statistics and spatial analysis in ArcGIS to provide a theoretical reference for promoting the development of leisure village agriculture and rural tourism. The results show that the distribution of BLVC presents a clustered state, showing a distribution pattern of a dual core, seven centers and multiple scattered points. BLVCs are mainly distributed in areas with flat terrain and sufficient water resources, which are conducive to agricultural production and life. Having convenient transportation and rich tourism resources aids the promotion of rural tourism development. The resulting gap in regional development is balanced to some extent by government support. The research results provide a reference value for future rural spatial optimization and sustainable development. This paper summarizes the law of rural development and clarifies the factors influencing the development of rural tourism, and it provides the Chinese experience as a model for a rural renaissance empowered by rural tourism.

ABSTRACT

In 2020, COVID-19 outbreak in China near the Spring Festival, the tourism industry was pressed "pause key". The tourism suppliers have been affected to varying degrees, especially in poor rural areas with a single industrial structure and high tourism dependence, the risk of deepening poverty or returning to poverty has increased dramatically. This paper aims to explore and expands the diversified income increasing space to the rural poor, help to realize the effective connection of the poverty alleviation achievements and rural revitalization, to ensure the sustainable development of rural tourism, besides, to providing experience and reference to other poor rural areas and even the world's poverty reduction. Literature review method, case study and field survey method, brainstorming method, supply chain reverse tracing methods are used to collect and analyze data. We take a diachronic field survey of the rural TSC in north western Yunnan, China. This paper build a complete TSC system under the framework of "industry-element-channel-mechanism-guarantee", and explores the operation mechanism of rural TSC guiding rural poverty reduction, discovering the ways in which the rural poor mainly participates in the TSC, which can further clarify and expand the diversified income increasing space to the rural poor population. Then we summarizes the current difficulties faced by the chain in the practice of poverty reduction;finally, based on the perspective of the poor, the rural TSC extension, sharing, customization, localization, talent cultivation and green supply chain countermeasures are proposed. © 2021 Kriedt Enterprises Ltd. ABSTRACT

Different disasters throughout history have prompted Japan to develop diverse approaches to recovery, revitalization, and local resilience. The current global COVID-19 pandemic is no exception. In this paper, we argue the need to study the impacts of COVID-19 on outside major cities such as Tokyo as such areas were already experiencing socioeconomic decline. Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture is a city that has also been undergoing extensive post-disaster reconstruction after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake (GEJE), notably through various bottom-up approaches, often initiated by volunteers and migrants bringing new, creative ideas to community revitalization. These efforts continue to shape the social life of its residents during COVID-19, making Ishinomaki an important case study in both disaster reconstruction and rural revitalization. This paper examines examples in which creativity played a key role in revitalization, recovery, and community resilience in Ishinomaki over the last decade to shed light on current creative revitalization initiatives at the grassroots level, initiated and carried out by citizens. Drawing on an ethnographic approach conducted remotely in the form of semi-structured interviews, the paper presents the personal narratives of a diverse range of residents and social networks committed to rebuilding the soft infrastructure that is often overlooked compared to hard infrastructure. The paper proposes suggestions for the future based on lessons learned from the past decade, and hopes to illuminate how Japan's rural areas are adapting to a new normal in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
